Yes23 Campaign Debrief:
So many of you worked so hard over recent weeks and months to organise for a resounding Yes outcome at the Referendum. The resounding No was not what we wanted, yet the conversations, energy, community networks and care we all built still count and are a strong foundation from which to build deeper transformative change on First Nations Justice in the months and years to come.
As we process this result together, it is so important that we hold space for the emotions we are all feeling whilst remembering there is so much meaningful and ongoing First Nations justice work that we can all continue to support.
The impact and grief of this moment will be most strongly felt in First Nations communities. The Referendum, and the political and cultural environment created by the No campaign, has taken a huge toll on First Nations Peoples. This must be a call to action, and many in the group wish to continue in some way to support First Nations Justice initiatives.
As a necessary and important step, Wynnum Manly for Yes is having a facilitated discussion to express our thoughts about the Referendum. Evaluation of the campaign and planning for the future of our group will come, but this is an initial and necessary first step in the re-purposing of our group.
We look forward to your participation,
Linda, Wynnum Manly for Yes Team
