South Gippsland for Yes!
We are a network of individuals & groups who work together to inform the public about the upcoming Indigenous Voice Referendum.
We aim to have a successful Referendum (see the Referendum Question) that changes Australia's Constitution (see the proposed wording) to at last recognise Indigenous people's continuous occupation of this country and their inclusion in political & legal decisions that concern them by establishing the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
We support:
a.The Position Statement of the Gunaikurnai Land & Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) https://gunaikurnai.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/GLaWAC-Position-Statement-The-Voice-Referendum-April-2023.pdf
b.The responses to community concerns written by the Victorian Federation of Traditional Owner Corporations (VFTOC) & endorsed by GLaWAC https://gunaikurnai.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/FAQs-on-Referendum-The-Voice-April-2023.pdf
c.The Uluru Dialogues of 2016 & 2017 that saw the biggest majority of Indigenous community representatives from across Australia come together for months of discussions about the best way to "Recognise" Australia's indigenous peoples "in the Constitution". It also culminated in the unanimous Uluru Statement from the Heart of 2017 where the proposal for the Indigenous Voice to Parliament, Truth-telling & Treaty and the invitation to join this publicly led movement were first announced https://ulurustatement.org/the-statement/the-dialogues/
and
d.The 2 Co-Design Reports of 2020 & 2021, presented to the then Morrison Government, that outlined preferred frameworks & principles for the establishment of an Indigenous representative body to Parliament, its advisory role, scope of matters under its consideration & processes. This is available to the public & to all Parliamentarians when they establish the Indigenous Advisory body - the Voice to Parliament - following a successful Referendum this year.
