Statement on Minister Burney’s National Press Club speech

Statement from Dean Parkin Yes 23 Campaign Director:

“Today’s speech from the Minister for Indigenous Australians, Linda Burney, brings important clarity to Australians about the Voice,” Mr Parkin said.

“The Minister was unequivocal that a successful referendum will deliver better outcomes for Indigenous Australians in important areas such as housing, jobs, health, and education.

“In our conversations across the country, we have heard that these are key priorities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.

“The status quo is not working. Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians alike are frustrated that government investment is failing to achieve progress on the ground.

“The Minister made it clear today that a Voice will be immediately focused on delivering real results in these priority areas.

“We will continue to focus on ensuring Australians are informed on the referendum and ready to move our nation forward together, delivering practical change where it counts: on the ground and in people's lives.”
